La Carrera
My run this morning was a lot harder than my run on Monday. It's a little surprising because Monday morning was my first time running in months, whereas this morning was my first time running in four days. I was just hot and pushing through to make it to the end. My playlist made it so much more doable. It always does.
As I sat on the driveway, stretching and breathing in and out, I remembered why I actually love going for runs in the mornings during my summer breaks. Maybe I am too introspective and I think too deep about things... but I think that going for a run is a beautiful metaphor of life and faith in Jesus.
My running playlist is called "Runnin' for Jesus" because they are all fun songs that encourage me in the run and give me a way to praise the Lord as I put one foot in front of the other. Singing praises to the Lord in the midst of the current struggle puts things in perspective for me. It reminds me where my strength comes from. It reminds me of God's faithfulness even when the storm comes. I started my run with "All I Need Is You" by Hollyn, which reminded me that the source of my strength is Jesus. He sustains me. I can depend on Him. And so that is what I do for the rest of the run.
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." Hebrews 12:1-3
I think these verses are awesome because they really keep my eyes on the reason that I run. In the metaphor, running represents what I do for the Lord in life. So, it reminds me why I work, write, and sing. It keeps my eyes on Jesus. I want to encourage you that in whatever your race is, whatever you are struggling with, keep your eyes on Jesus. He will sustain you.
